Benjamin Franklin :: History
Benjamin Franklin It is also to understand what it took for Franklin to be such a famous and respectable man. When one takes a look at the world in which he currently lives, he sees it as being normal since it is so slow in changing. When an historian looks at the present, he sees the effects of many events and many wise people. Benjamin Franklin is one of these people. His participation in so many different fields changed the world immensely. He was a noted politician as well as respected scholar. He was an important inventor and scientist. Particularly interesting is the impact on the scientific world. Benjamin Franklin was a modest man who had had many jobs in his lifetime. This may help explain his large array of inventions and new methods of working various jobs. He did everything from making cabbage-growing more efficient to making political decisions to being the first person to study and chart the Gulf Stream movement in the Atlantic Ocean. *Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 17, 1706. He was the fifteenth child in a family of seventeen kids. His parents, Josiah and Abiah Franklin, were hard working devout Puritan/Calvinist people. Josiah Franklin made candles for a living. Since the Franklinââ¬â¢s were so poor, little Benjamin couldn't afford to go to school for longer than two years. In those two years, however, Franklin learned to read which opened the door to further education for him. Since he was only a fair writer and had very poor mathematical skills, he worked to tutor himself at home. Benjamin Franklin was a determined young man. As a boy, he taught himself to be a very good writer. He also learned basic algebra and geometry, navigation, grammar, logic, and natural and physical science. He partially mastered French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Latin. He was soon to be named the best educated man in the country. When he was 12-years-old, he was apprentice to his brother in printing. Benjamin's brother founded the second newspaper in America. Many people told him that one newspaper was enough for America and that the paper would soon collapse. On the contrary, it became very popular. Occasionally, young Benjamin would write an article to be printed and slip it under the printing room's door signed as "Anonymous". The following is a direct quote from Franklin's Autobiography. It describes his writing the articles as a boy.

Unbalanced work
The cause of the problem in my department is the unbalanced work load between two secretaries, Jack Snyder, who is providing support to two executive members, Ralph Alane & Jessica Hilo, and Ruth Disselkoen who is providing support to other two executive members, Samuel Daley & Frank Daley. During the long time medical leave of Jessica Hilo, 37% of the work load has been handled by a full time administrative assistant and Jack for the total 80 hours of the week, whereas 63% of the work load has been handled by a part time administrative assistant and Ruth for the total 55 hours of the week. This imbalance in work environment creates stress for Ruth who canââ¬â¢t perform her work perfect, at the same time, makes Jack lazy and irregular. Ruth canââ¬â¢t concentrate in her work even though she works for more hours and the executive members start complain. On the other hand, Jack has enough time to finish his work on time with quality without any stress. This may create friction in the department and so overall quality of the work will go down. In order to solve the issue and make the department efficient, I am very much convinced that an immediate action is required. I would like to discuss this issue with two secretaries. The aim would be to convince both of them that team work is more important than an individual responsibility. Since this is a new approach to handle the situation, initially, I will assign the work. The current practice of work assignment will be changed and the work will be considered as a department work rather than individual. The same will be conveyed to the executive members. This change will result in no overtime and improved work quality for sure.

Classroom Behavior Essay
Each different classroom has different rules and behavior settings in their classrooms. The atmosphere of the classroom has a lot to do with student behavior. The setting of the classroom should be appealing to the teacher and in some cases the students. All teachers should let students know specific doââ¬â¢s and donââ¬â¢ts of the classroom. Which behaviors are expected or desired and which will not be tolerated in the class, Ms. Colombara? s rules are fair and respectful to the class. They insist of no food and drinks in the classroom but sometimes the teacher bends the rules and lets students quickly munch down an orange or a small granola bar. During the classroom break stay in the class and under no circumstances leave the classroom without your student handbook with you. Absolutely no uses of swear words in the classroom but some are used when the class is doing readings from novels. Treat any teachers on call the same respect, as you would treat a regular staff at Sullivan Heights Secondary. One of the rules Ms. Colombara likes to knag at kids is to not to eat or drink in the classroom. Nobody blames her because there could be some spills or crumbs on the ground and no teacher likes to go as a janitor at the end of the class and pick up junk left by the students in the classroom. The teacher also doesn? t like gum or any type of candy because sometime kids leave the gum underneath the desk and that is horrific and gross. Also some students like to put the gum on the ground and when a fellow student walks with over it, it sticks underneath their shoe and it? s a pain to clean up. She will only allow water only if it? s in a sealed bottle like a water bottle or a Gatoradeà ® bottle, something that has a lid on it so if it does get bumped off the desk nothing will spill. Another rule Ms. Colombara has that no foul language or any other inappropriate behavior in the classroom. No foul language should be used against another member of the class. If students do this they will earn them automatic participation in ? Friday? s after school writing challenge session as well.? If the usage of foul language is very harsh and disturbing the student could be sent to the office with a referral and a call home to the parents. Also teach T. O. C. with the same respect you would too any other teacher. It? s not fair for a T. O. C to come to a school and being harassed or taken advantage by the students. During the weekly double block in Sullivan Heights Secondary, there is a short ten-minute break that the teacher allows students to get a breath of fresh air or just stretch and walk around. While the ten-minute break is in process, students are than usually allowed to go to the restroom and go for a drink if needed. At no times during the break and regular time is a student permitted to leave the class without signing the student handbook by the teacher. No student is able to wander the school premises. If a student decides to leave when the have a T. O. C. than the student will be punished and have to write a 500 word essay on Appropriate Classroom Behaviors. If the student keeps on leaving class without handbook there could be a possibility of losing his/her break period. In conclusion, Ms. Colombara? s rules are fair and are perfect for the classroom. She allows no food or drinks in the classroom. Respect fellow classmates, the teacher, and yourself by listening to any body that? s speaking at the time. Make sure that you never ever take advantage of T. O. C. or any teachers at the school. Ms. Colombara? s rules are great and if you don? t obey them you will be dealt with serious consequences.
Book Response : Elie Wiesel ââ¬ÅNightââ¬Â Essay
Rianna Welsh 622 Book: ââ¬Å"Nightâ⬠by Elie Wiesel 1. Does the story have an explicit theme? What is it? Use at least 3 details from the story to support your answer. Yes, the book does have an explicit theme. There are many examples of the explicit themes .Some of the themes are * Death- Death was shown through the loss of loved ones, especially when Elie lost his entire family to the concentration camp. It was also shown through the hurtful torture that happened, and the decaying smell of dead bodies penetrating in the prisonerââ¬â¢s noses. * Faith- Elieââ¬â¢s father told Elie to never lose his faith of his religion and that it would help him through everything that was bound to happen, and keep him strong. First Elie wasnââ¬â¢t sure of his faith. He thought if there was a God, then why did he create the situation that they were in. * Hatred ââ¬â The Naziââ¬â¢s acted with a lot hatred against the Jews, Gypsies, Ghettos, and many others who stood in their way. Use details from the text to support your answer. The point of view is told by Eliezer (a slightly fictionalized version of Elie Wiesel). Eliezer speaks in the first person and always relates to the autobiographical events from his perspective (point of view). He said ââ¬Å"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed.â⬠Followed by him saying ââ¬Å"Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky.â⬠Finally he finished by saying ââ¬Å"Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself.ââ¬

Impacts of Casinos
The Negative Impact Many people do not want the casinos in their town and feel that having one will only bring chaos and criminal activity. Some of the misconceptions how a casino will affect a town range from addiction to industry centralization. In the website that Greg Saris has written he states that ââ¬Å"we don't want to get into slot machines and hard-core gambling because it is addictive and destructive in people's livesâ⬠(Saris, 2003). It is believed that the impact of a casino coming into a town would be morally ND ethically irresponsible.The people that go to this facility are sometimes categorized as gambling addicts with alarming numbers of them. In California back in 2002 it is said that there were over 1. 2 billion addicts in that state. It is a widespread belief that with the casinos will increase the ââ¬Å"crime, suicide, addiction and human misery' (Saris, 2003). In the article that Kevin Fagan has written it can be seen the comparison between gambling addic tions and a drug (crack-cocaine) (Fagan, 2007). A person may start out n Bingo (class Ill in Nevada) or a simple form of gambling and then may be introduced to slot machines.It is believed there is a great need for medical help since it is referred to as ââ¬Å"a medically designated psychological disorder in its most severe, pathological formâ⬠(Fagan, 2007). Douglas Walker has written a book to help us to understand the economics of gambling and the arguments presented. It is general misconception that casinos are an ââ¬Å"industry centralization, the ââ¬Å"factory-restaurantâ⬠dichotomy, export base theory of growth, money inflow (mercantilism) (Walker, 2007). Positive Argument There many positive impacts on a towns economics that have been proven over history.Will the positive affects be greater than the negative? Through studies and research it can be seen how beneficial casinos can affect the economic industry. It is believed that casinos will be able to draw in to urists and more income to a city through marketing and incentives to those across the U. S. It will bring more income to a town that otherwise would not have had visitors (Walker, 2007) (peg. 36). Both revenue and income for a small town is greatly increased when a casinos are created.
