Toledo Toledo t?le ´do [key], city (1990 pop. 332,943), seat of Lucas co., NW Ohio, on the Maumee River at its junction with Lake Erie; inc. 1837. The Smart Solutions Club Tackles Problems of All Shapes and Sizes
It all started with lockers. à On the Hult Boston campus, some students never used theirs, while others desperately needed one. Paulo Oliveira, an MBA student from Portugal, offered up a solution: after assigning lockers to specific students, those left without a lock are claimableââ¬âto anyone who needs one. A simple solution. Paulo, whose seven years of consulting experience comes in handy when analyzing the root cause of a problem and devising a solution, likes a quote from Henry Ford: ââ¬Å"There are no big problems, there are just a lot of little problems.â⬠He observed that around campus his colleagues were coming up with great ideas to help each other and that if implemented students could have an immediate impact. à Paulo was inspired, and he imagined a club of students whose primary goal was simple: identify key opportunities that can improve the learning and job-hunting process. Thus, the Smart Solutions Club (SSC) was born. Club members identify key opportunities to collaborate with staff on small improvements that will have a big impact on the student experience, with members splitting in to teams to form projects that address predicaments and match them with solutions. The clubââ¬â¢s mission has never wavered: improve the quality of life on campus. There are 15 club members (ââ¬Å"the boardâ⬠), and they donââ¬â¢t meet very oftenââ¬âon purpose; theyââ¬â¢d rather work on projects than sit through meetings. They meet in person for no more than 30 minutes to collectively decide which opportunities theyââ¬â¢ll support next. Though Paolo is the head of the club, members lead their own projects, which gives everyone a chance to hone their leadership skills. Non-members are also invited to present opportunities and be active in forming their solutions. Members of the SSC have been busy the last few modules. Below is a sampling of some of their achievements. Peer Teaching With theà quantitative subjectsà tutors schedules quickly filling, the club determined that a peer-to-peer teaching model might offer the best solution to help spread the sharing of learned knowledge and experience that other students already possessed. MBA candidate and SSC vice-president Kilean Watson led the charge on determining which students had subject expertise and were interested in teaching their fellow peers. The newly-established program is still going strong. MIT European Career Fair When Paulo found out that the MIT European Club was responsible for executing the largest European job fair in the U.S., he reached out to offer help. When the club needed more volunteers, Paulo recruited fellow SSC members who were eager to increase Hult brand awareness (MBA students Natalia Angel, Markus Schmidthuysen and Josà © Serna). They tackled the job of reaching out to local embassies (among other duties), which resulted in the participation of the Portuguese and Spanish consuls, and the German ambassador. SSC members are now honorary members of the MIT European Club, and they hope to continue that partnership with next yearââ¬â¢s incoming class. Interview Practice MBA student and SSC member Kazem Guccani recognized that students wanted more interview practice as they tackled their job searches. With Career Servicesââ¬â¢ help, Guccani and fellow SSC members, identified students with experience conducting interviews, and created the ââ¬Å"Peer to Peer Interview Simulation. SSC member Markus Schmidthuysen also saw that many students wanted more specialized training to tackle challenging case interviews. He recruited a case interview expert to lead a weekend workshop, during which more than 50 students gained skills and practice to confidently attack upcoming interviews. An Alternative Club Model Paulo hopes the SSC model will inspire students to form more clubs with creative structures and missions, which he believes would complement some of the schoolââ¬â¢s more traditional clubs. ââ¬Å"Having a good grasp of the Hult business model is necessary for understanding the optimal club structure. Copying the club formula of other schools can be a mistake sometimes because we are a one-year MBA, not two; and because we have a rotation program, which other schools donââ¬â¢t. This is not good or bad, itââ¬â¢s just a fact, and we have to look at it as an opportunity.â⬠The Student Services team welcomes new and innovative ideas for clubs and student involvement opportunities. à Paulo has enjoyed this experience, ââ¬Å"Hult staff has the experience, and students bring new ideas and motivation. Hultââ¬â¢s legacy relies on its students and alumni. President Hodges once said: ââ¬ËIn order to reinforce the Hult brand, we will need two key things from you [the students]. Be an outstanding professional and an outstanding Hult alumni.ââ¬â¢ Through clubs we can get a head start.â⬠Kickstart your career in this education and innovation hotspot by studying at Hults Boston business school. It will be discussed (1) the purpose and benefits, if any, of baptism, (2) was baptism designed for infants or just those who have believedâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This refers back to Gregoryââ¬â¢s comment ââ¬Å"water is just water.â⬠If a person is just performing a ritual then all they are getting is a religious bath. This point is much more difficult to defend. However, when a verse contains salvation and baptism in the same line it does create nostalgia about performing a ritual for salvation. ââ¬Å"Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be co ndemned.â⬠(Mark 16:16) Where as when salvation is granted and the person not being baptized, such as the criminal on the cross gives a very different feel. ââ¬Å"And he said to him, ââ¬ËTruly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Luke 23:43) The rite of baptism, in this sense, gives one a great deal of benefits. A person will receive salvation, new birth (regeneration), the Holy Spirit, remission of sins, sanctified, set apart, etc. The list could go on. However, it seems all those benefits should come with faith in Christ and if they do, why is baptism necessary for salvation. If baptism is necessary then sacramentalism should be more important that evangelism. This would shift salvation from a ââ¬Å"personal relationship in Jesus to a proper relationship with the church.â⬠The words of Paul should never be forgotten, ââ¬Å"For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel.â⬠(1 Cor. 1:17) Lutzer admits, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ if baptism was necessary for salvation, Paul would have made sure that all who believed were baptized.â⬠There is no needShow MoreRelatedThe Baptism Debate2175 Words à |à 9 PagesOften held as a rite of passage and entrance into the Christian church, baptism is much more than just symbolic ritual. Baptism was commanded by Jesus Christ in the Great Commission recounted in the book of Matthew. Even though we are simplistically called to be obedient by being baptized the Christian church has long debated the aspects of this ordinance. Denominations are divided on the basic meaning, types and modes of baptism even two thousand years after the founding of the Christian church.Read MoreIntroduction. Historically, Baptism Has Not Been Understood1659 Words à |à 7 PagesIntroduction Historically, baptism has not been understood to be an optional practice. It is commanded by God. But there has often been disagreement about whom baptism is for, how it should be done, and why it is significant. This debate has divided Christians over the years, and it is mainly focused on what the purpose and merits of Baptism are; of whether baptism should be only for adults or infants as well; or on the correct mode of baptism. As any debate, there are two sides to each area. Anabaptists comes from the gospel of the Mennonites and those who felt that baptism should be valid with the confession of people not being baptized. A person must have been baptized because it was Scripture and werenââ¬â¢t allowed to fellowship unl ess otherwise done. They thought that since Jesus was baptized when he was an adult, the same should apply to everyone else. Baptism and communion was a symbol of faith, and wasnââ¬â¢t meaningful unless the person was of the faith. Font of Life by Gary Wills includes baptisms performed by Saint Ambrose. As discussed in class, several were performed near the personsââ¬â¢ time of death in order to guarantee a cleansing of sins and thus a pathway to heaven. Throughout my research I found nothing about Ambrose baptizing infants, therefore I would assume he does not believe strongly in original sin. The topics I have trouble fully understanding are the views of baptism, the elect, security of salvation, and the roles of women in the church. The first topic I have wrestled with is adult baptism versus infant baptism. I grew up in the reformed church, so I was baptized as an infant. When I was in fourth grade my family began attending a Wesleyan church, where they practice adult baptisms. Baptism involves identification with Christ in His death and resurrection. Digital / Direct Response Advertising, Sales Promotion,...
Throughout chapters 13, 14, and 15 I learned a lot about digital/direct-response advertising, sales promotion, and research within advertising. In particular I learned about digital media pros and cons, consumer advertising, and focus groups. I also discovered multiple things that I am able to apply to real life, for instance contests and sweepstakes. After looking more in depth into these parts of advertising, I definitely have a better understanding of them compared to before I looked through these chapters. My first impression on digital media was that it simply was anything that could be advertised over technology. However, after looking into it I discovered that not only does media have many benefits for advertising but it also have many negative sides to it. Some pros are that digital media offers advertising that is inexpensive, quick , measurable and easily targeted. It also serves as as a combination of interactive audio and video capabilities which is great for getting the consumers interest and focus. Lastly digital media is extremely flexible, which means you can change messages immediately depending on whats trending. As far as the cons to digital media only some forms of media advertising are doing well for some markets, so some arenââ¬â¢t ready to take the risk. Some customers are also hesitant to purchasing anything over the media services due to fear of identity safety. Although there are many benefits of media advertising, are they worth some of the cons?Show MoreRelatedDigital Media and Digital Technology870 Words à |à 4 PagesDIGITAL MEDIA AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY Many approaches has been deliver one message to buyers across an company promotions, that may contain all types of media they are TV, radio, internet and mobile phones.
